Question : Problem: Fixing a short circuit on a laptop motherboard
I have a laptop that recently stopped working, after close inspection of the motherboard found that there was black around the back pin of the DC socket. All the solder had burned away.
I removed the Socket and cleaned around the hole and applied a fresh bit of solder to the connection. I then replaced the DC jack and re-soldered the new one to the board.
Now when i plug the power into the jack i get a spark coming from the back pin where it will continue to burn away the solder again.
I remember a few years back an electronics engineer friend of mine was working on a piece of hardware with similar problems and once he had removed the jack, cleaned and then replaced the jack with a new one, he then applied a glue to the connection and to a couple of the neighboring resistors which then eliminated the problem and the hardware would work again without shorting.
Does anybody know anything about this method and whether it will work for me.
Answer : Problem: Fixing a short circuit on a laptop motherboard
There is some non-conductive paste I have seen that hardens that should do the trick, but I cannot remember what it is called. Hopefully someone on here can think of the name.
