Question : Problem: Win XP Doesn't recognize Flash Drive
|
|
On Win XP (sp2) Fully Patched. I just bought a Kingston 2 Gig Flash drive (Data Traveler Elite) When I plug it into any USB port,it is not recognized.
When I plug it in,the found new hardware wizard pops up, I go through the found new hardware wizard. In the end it says, "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary hardware". I tried different options in the find new hardware wizard. (Install the software automatically, or Install the software from a list), no matter what I do, I still get the "The hardware was not installed etc.." Message.
I tried the back ports, it still doesn't work.
I have gone into computer Management, Disk Management, all of the removable drives say "Removable - No Media" I have rebooted with the flash drive plugged in, still isn't recognized.
My old flash drives (SanDisk) DO work on this computer. I called HP, and they said that because the old sandisk flash drives do work, that it is not the fault of the HP computer. However, If I plug in my new Kingston Flash drive into my OLD Dell Computer, it does work.
I checked in computer management - Device Manager, there is a yellow question mark under "Other Devices", it says: "DT Elite HS 2.0". This must be the kingston flash drive. When I right click on it and select update driver, and go through the panels, in the end it says, "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary hardware"
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You
