Question : Problem: How to turn off/ down laptop fan on HP Pavillion laptop

Hi there,

I was wondering if somebody would be able to advise me on changing the settings on my HP Pavillion tx1138ea laptop, relating to the extraction fan. Notably, I am currently running Windows Vista Home Premium.

Whilst I appreciate that the fan cannot always be turned off due to the danger of the CPU overheating, I wondered if anyone had any tips for reducing the time that it is on. Incidentally, the laptop reviews stated that it is regarded as a noisy laptop - this may be due in part to the small surface area size in comparison to other models.

So far, I have already tried changing the Vista power settings from the 'High Performance' option to 'Power Saver.' However, the fan still seems to be on for most of the time the laptop is switched on.

Thanks a lot!

Regularly clean the vents using a can of compressed air or a vacuum cleaner. Also there are cooling pads you can buy on which you can place your laptop. Add RAM, that reduces disk activity and that will also reduce the heat generated. Don't place the laptop on your lap. Always make sure the vents have enough room and aren't blocked.
