Question : Problem: hp compaq 6720s laptop

My laptop hangs during startup at the point of logging in. I wanted to recover the laptop using F11, but F11 does not appear at the point of loading windows.
when I tried to do OS repair using a XP cd, it did not ask to repair. It just installed.
Now I cannt do the Laptop recovery to the factory manuafactured default.
How do I go about it?

I assume you used a retail XP cd rather than the HP XP cd, and this doesn't have the software to enable access to the F11 recovery partition.
If you can't access the recovery partition using the f11 method, then you need to use the recovery dvd's that you are responsible to create when you first start the laptop. If you haven't made these recovery DVD's then you will have to get in touch with HP to get replacement DVD's for this laptop.
