Question : Problem: Is this a NTBackup, Task Scheduler or RDP problem

I am trying to setup automated backups using NTBackup with a Exabyte VXA320 Packet Drive on a Windows Server 2003 DC.  My question relates to why this isn't working and whether it is NTBackup, Task Scheduler or Remote Desktop.

I can backup to a tape without problem if I use NTBackup manually,  however if I then try to schedule the automated NTBackup through task Scheduler, it doesn't seem to work.

At the time of the schedule, the Task Scheduler shows as 'Running'  however I would expect to see NTBackup application pop onto the screen which it does not.  The log file ends up being empty and for all intersive purposes, it seems nothing has happened.

I have simplified the process to try and break down exactually where the problem lies.  I take a blank tape, Do a full backup on the tape manually with NTBackup.  I then go back and select a Schedules Job to start at a specific time and set it to use the specific media i just created (Media created DATE/TIME), I select Incremental as the type of backup, as I would like it to append changed files from each day to this particlar day.   Finsh the schedule by giving it a name and placing the administrators password in the required fields.

Could this simply be a remote desktop thing where the backup is running in the live Administrator session rather then my remote session and this is causing a conflict?

Please help.

Regards

EK

Usually such problems are caused by the automated backup trying to run as administrator or the user who created it. You should try to make the job run as a system account.
