Question : Problem: Home VPN - Suggestions

I have a spare PC at home and I'd like to set it up as a VPN server with the end goal being that I could RDP into any of my other PC's on my home network.  Additionally, I have a Windows Mobile 6.0 phone that I'd also like to be able to connect to the VPN.

Is there a piece of software I can download to accomplish this?  Does anyone have any recommendations?  I've looked around the web and found a few OpenSource solutions that look they can turn a PC into a VPN server.

I would put my networking skills at moderate.  I am fimiliar with basic terminology and theory, however, setting up a full blown linux on Windows 2003 Server is a little beyond my expertice (I've tried and failed :(

Thanks,

PJ

Answer : Problem: Home VPN - Suggestions

If you want a simple, web based approach, try logmein as xuserx2000 suggests.

If you want something a little more configurable and comprehensive - data transfer between vpn server and client for example, try OpenVPN.  It will run on an XP box as a server and a client.

See http://www.runpcrun.com/howtoopenvpn for the server side

Not tried to connect a Windows mobile device, but apparently this is possible http://www.zeroshell.net/eng/openvpn-client/#OpenVPN-Windows-Mobile

More information on OpenVPN is available here: http://www.openvpn.net/
