Question : Problem: Anyone know of a good Windows XP dumb client?
|
|
I am setting up a small store with a point of sale program that is to run on a single PC and a dumb terminal if that's possible. One work station will consist of a PC and the other will consist of a dub client of some sort and both will utilize touch screens, card swipes and receipt printers. The PC will also have a mouse and keyboard attached.
I have been investigating a product called Applica Lite, which is a kvm like setup on the end of a long USB cable. The KVM part at the client side includes no usb ports, so there isn't room for peripherals beyond the kvm portion. I am hoping to avoid Terminal Services or Citrix, I would prefer a hardware based solution. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Is your need to be able to be in 2 places at once or have 2 individuals doing input?
Looking at the scnerios described above I don't see an advantage to having a dumb terminal. The costs of a pc vs. a dumb terminal is not much when considering 2 computers. If it were a great number of dumb terminals then there could be a cost savings.
If the 2 places at once is your interest PC anywhere might be a good choice
If 2 users at once then both computers could access the same application on one of the computers via a small network with a shared folder.
