Question : Problem: Modem Installation Internal
|
|
Hi, recently I installed an internal modem into my computer which I got off someone and did not have drivers for. since it has two slots for the connection and was sort of like my other internal modem I installed the NetComm Drivers for it but when I tried to connect to the internet I got an error about the port being in use. this was when the modem was installed on COM3. I am not sure whether the drivers are incorrect or the modem is faulty. On the modem i couldn't find much helpful information about it. on what looked like the chip it has
R556/SP-PCI 11P1 R6793-21 9852-8712555 Mexico
If anyone could help me get this modem installed and working I would be very pleased.
PS. When I first put the PCI card in and booted win95 it came up with the new hardware installation dialog about installing a PCI device so it detected the modem ok, just doesn't work with the drivers.

Answer : Problem: Modem Installation Internal

Delete 'COM2' from 'Device Manager". Shutdown, reboot, and enter BIOS-setup mode. Select "Integrated Peripherals" (or something like it), and "disable" the motherboard's own "COM2" port. Save-and-exit from BIOS-setup. Windows will now move the modem to 'COM2'. (Your serial-port mouse, if you have one, will still use COM1.) Then, try your modem.
