Question : Problem: What does "This product is designed for MD: special RAID edition" mean....
|
|
Hi, I have a Dell XPS GEN5 tower & want to put a 2nd HDD in (I already have a 250GB Drive). I have my eye on a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB (ST3500630AS http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=44FT) but I am unsure about buying it because the product description has the following phrase at the end "This product is designed for MD: special RAID edition".
What does this mean? Does it mean it cant be used as a normal 2nd SATA drive? Anyone have an XPS GEN5 and know if this drive works in it??
Thanks

Results from additional research: MD is a Linux extension. In Linux, the MD extension implements RAID-0 (striping), RAID-1 (mirroring), RAID-4 and RAID-5 in software. That is, with MD, no special hardware or disk controllers are required to get many of the benefits of RAID.
