Question : Problem: Simultaneous wireless n & g - 3Comm & Airport Extreme - multiple devices

I received this helpful info from 'strung' and I have received my Airport Extreme. My question was: How do I integrate an AirPort Extreme Base Station with Gigabit Ethernet with my current network so that Back To My Mac is enabled (Replace 3COM OfficeConnect?).

"Set the internal LAN address of the 3COMM to 192.168.1.2. Turn off the DHCP server in the 3Comm. Connect your modem to the WAN port of the Airport. Connect the LAN port of the Airport to one of the LAN ports (not the WAN port) of the 3Comm. Change the DHCP server of the Airport to use IP's starting with 192.168.1.100. Make sure you use different SSID's for the 3Comm and the Airport. The 3Comm with then act as a bridge, rather than NAT router.

If your Macs support wireless N, set the Airport to Wireless N using the 5 Ghz band. You can the use the 3Comm SSID to connect devices that don't use wireless N and use the Airport SSIC for the faster wireless N 5 Ghz band. The Airport also has a setting to allow you to use two channels at once to double your throughput."

With my Airport Extreme I have additionsl concerns.

1. Can the 3Commm and Airport Extreme simultaneously operate as wireless devices in same room? I have a wireless intrenet radio (Revo Pico) which is g-compatible only and a MacBook Pro which I believe is n-compatible. Guests may bring laptops of -n or -g configuration.

2. How do I determine if my Intel iMac (iMac 5,1 - Intel Core 2 Duo) & MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro 3,1 - Intel Core 2 Duo) support wireless n? Both list Airport Extreme wireless card type under About this Mac. I want both Macs to connect to AirPort Extreme (iMac can be via Ethernet) so back-to-my-Mac will work.

Yes, they can operate simultaneously in the same room since the 3Comm will be operating on the 2.4GHz band and the Airport on the 5GHz. band. Therefore they will not interfere with each other. I have a Linksys WRT300N and a Time Capsule set up that way sitting within an inch of each other with no problem.
