Question : Problem: Windows 2000 Server Standard maximum processors.
|
|
When Windows 2000 server standard was released, hyper threading was somewhat in its infancy. As such, Windows 2000 Server standard does not distinguish between physical and logical processors. However, since then there have been 4 service packs and numerouse updates.
So, today, in 2007, if a server has 4 Intel Xeon physical processors with HT and the BIOS sees all 8 logical processors, does the OS see and use all 8 logical processors, or does it only use the first 4?

Answer : Problem: Windows 2000 Server Standard maximum processors.

Only the first four - and because 2000 was never designed to take HT into account, you would be better off DISABLING the HT option in BIOS.
