Question : Problem: 3Com superstack password recover
|
|
We have an old SuperStack 3000 series and none of the current staff know the passwords or login. This was also not documented. Is there a way to reset or recover the password? I have read a few different thoughts, one pertaining to loading a new image and another pertaining to snmp.
Thanks

The firmware reload is usually the most reliable option.
There is a thread here http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=555357 that details it. And another article here [under "Breaking in on the console (if needed)"] http://www.cromwell-intl.com/tcpip/switch-programming.html
Basically, get a new firmware, load it on a tftp server, connect to the console login. Hold the Reset button for 2 seconds, wait for 3 seconds, then press Reset again for 1 second. At the now blank prompt, type in the firmare filename and press enter, then type in the ip address of the tftp server and press enter. The switch should reboot when it's finished, and set back to factory.
Another option you may want to try first: Some units had a default factory login User: 3comcso Pass: RIP000 (or somtimes: RIP 000, RIP 0000, RIP0000)
