Question : Problem: How do I safely return redirected folders to the local machine?
|
|
Hi all I set up a Small Business Server with folder redirection, only THIS time I not only redirected MY DOCUMENTS, but also APPLICATION DATA and DESKTOP. I now wish that I had not set up the latter two, since it is near impossible to reboot the server without logging everyone off first. Also, it seems to bog down some applications that rely heavily on Application Data content.
My question is, now that I set up the folders to redirect to the server (via Group Policy), how do I safely return them to the workstation. I only want to return App Data and Desktop, and keep My Docs on the server. I will then instruct all users to keep everything important in My Docs, and don't cry if their HDD crashes and stuff is missing.
The GP object> DEFAULT DOMAIN POLICY>USER CONFIGURATION>WINDOWS SETTINGS>FOLDER REDIRECTION.. Alternate Click My Documents, click properties, press BASIC, in the target folder \\ServerName\ShareName\%username%.
Has anyone reversed this before? What syntax did you use in the Target Folder Path??
Thanks guys

In theory you shouldn't have to copy any files from the server back to the workstations. If you look in the Policy under both Desktop and Application Data folder redirection you should see two options in the Settings Tab 1. "Move the contents of Application Data/Desktop to the new location" - Enable this 2. "Redirect the folder back to the local userprofile location when policy is removed" - Enable this
Once these have been select you can then set the policy to "Not Configured" in the Target tab and ask the a user to try logging on.
