Question : Problem: Rack Grounding Question

Our organization is going to introduce our first rack, I don't have much experience working with racks and have some questions regarding grouding.

First off I am going to have 4 servers & 1 external tape drive mounted in this rack, the rack is an APC Netshelter 25U. I plan on plugging each server into our single APC Smart UPS 1000 (upgrading to a rackmountable 3000 in about 2 months) and then plugging the UPS directly into a wall outlet.

Do I need to do anything special to ground out the rack? Compaq recommends that I purchase and hardwire in a PDU.. is this necessary? I assume the servers themselves are already grounded by the grouding pin in the powercord. However we just purchased some very expensive equipment and I dont want to take any chances.

Answer : Problem: Rack Grounding Question

yes the servers will allready be grounded, a PDU will also help, I fit PDU's on everything now NOT for grounding but because they keep the rack tidy and make it easier to wire redundant PSU's into different UPS units which gives better tolerance and looks more professional, as for grounding, Ive built well over 300 rack units and its never crossed my mind :)
