Question : Problem: CPU's not getting much faster nowaday?

Hi there,
It's been two full years since I got my computer(P4 2.8G) and I'm thinking about giving this computer to my bro and getting a new one for myself.
So I was surfing the net for new PC's and it was a little confusing because I was expecting to see things like P4 10G or P6 5.0G but instead, there were "Dual core" 2.6G, 2.8G
Was there like a hugh gap in CPU market for last two years? cuz, it seems like there hasn't been much new CPU's come out for last 2 years, namely only a couple "Dual core" CPU's

You missed out on the release of the Intel Core2 Duo cpus (NOT the same as the Pentium-D dual core).  These are significantly faster than anything AMD or Intel have previously, regardless of clock speed, and they run on less power:
