Question : Problem: Sound Blaster X-Fi interrupting sound when CPU is busy

Hi,

I have a brand new Workstation with Windows 2008 server x64 and excellent Hardware:
- 8 GB RAM
- 4 x 450 GB SAS disks 15k
- RAID 10 array
- 2 x QuadCore XEON 3.0 processors
- Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI card (not so excellent, duh :))

Now, Workstation is blazing fast, except of many Microsoft not-yet-solved bugs in Server 2008 64-bit. Disk read/write speeds achieve up to 320 MB/s which is very, very fast for home use.

The problem?
When I play music or watch video with ANY application, and at the same time just open some picure for preview, for example, CPU gets busy for a second, and sound becomes jerky for a second or two, interrupting sound like via very bad telephone connection.

I have latest greatest Sound Blaster drivers, also Windows is very much up to date. CPU is NOT busy all the time (it idles around 1-3%).

Any idea which crap is guilty for such a noise distortion with CPU spikes?

Answer : Problem: Sound Blaster X-Fi interrupting sound when CPU is busy

Hi,

thanx for hint.
I tried the setting you suggested (it was adjusted for best performance of "Background services" before), but nothing changed.
Sound is still jerky for 1-2 seconds when I open or close! any document (picture, document...). Also, when copying large files (2 GB) sound interruptions are heard.

Interesting...when I start playback of any sound file, CPU does not care it at all - CPU graph is flat as nothing happened.
But on the other hand, playback is disruptive from time to time even if I don't do anything on computer.

So, I moved this sound card to my 6-yrs old computer with XP installed, and it sounds great - no interruptions, no problems.

Which means...drivers for 2008/Vista problem?
