Question : Problem: Workgroup Sharing/remote desktop

I am having a strange problem.  Recently I set up my home network to share files among 3 pc's.
I am also using remote desktop to control my main pc from my laptop.
Everything was working great for about 2 weeks.  Then one day remote desktop quit working.  Once I rebooted the computer, file sharing quit working too.
I can still access the second desktop from my laptop, and I can reach the laptop from both stations.
On the main system that isnt working, I have verified that remote desktop is working, and that file sharing is active.
I have also tried disabling the firewall all together.  that didnt seem to help.  the only thing that Seems to have happened, is that My norton system works license seems to have expired, it didnt ask to renew, like it usually does.  it stated that the trial had expired.  it was not a trial.  To avoid any problems with norton,  I simply unistalled it.
Netbios is enabled, on all systems.  I can ping all 3 stations from any of the other stations.
Remote desktop and file sharing just wont connect.

what is even more bizare, is sometimes my laptop will conect to the main system via remote desktop, but the second desktop system will not connect to the main system????

does anybody have any ideas?

Answer : Problem: Workgroup Sharing/remote desktop

Norton often doesn't cleanly uninstall. Go to the Symantec homepage and look for tools you can download from there to completely remove everything from symantec. Then make sure you have a good antivirus software installed, like avast which is free for home use.

http://avast.com

After installing reboot so the system gets virus checked. When done, check the PC's for other malware using the following tools:

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Make sure you update the definitions before starting the scan.

Hopefully your network will work again once the symantec stuff is removed and the system cleaned of malware.
