Question : Problem: Network Cable Unplugged - Integrated Atheros NIC

Hi Experts:

I have a clone PC with a ASUS P5GC-MX Motherboard running  Windows XP Pro SP2.  The Network Adapter is an Atheros, integrated on the motherboard.

My LAN connection has been working happily until a few days ago.
Now I keep getting "A network cable is unplugged" message.  The cable is fine. Tested with laptop.
There are no lights on next to the PC's network connector.

I have booted my PC with several Linux distros - none of those give any LAN connectivity, so I suspect it's a hardware problem.

Is there anything I can do apart from replacing the motherboard or adding a PCI Network Card?

Regards,
Leigh

Answer : Problem: Network Cable Unplugged - Integrated Atheros NIC

Reset the switch, unplug for 1 minute and plug it back in.

I have a customer right now that has to do this every day untill his replacement switches come in. On occasion the address table on the switch gets messed up.

You may have blown a port on the switch.
Disable the current card and put in a PCI card to test with. Just for fun :)
