Question : Problem: can't install seagate ide tape drive into win xp pro
I'm having trouble installing my seagate ide tape drive (TT20000A) tape drive into win xp pro. i tried both slave and CS dip settings. win xp pro sees that there's new hardware and tries to install it, but can't. a weird thing is that under device manager it show up as wrongly spelled "Seagate". once it came up as SeqgqteTT20000A, another time it came up as eqgqte TT20000A. When i go to the seagate web site for the correct driver, it says that there are no explicit drivers for the tape drive, windows should just recognize it and install it itself. I have 2 of these tape drives and I get the same broken response to both of them.... (I only try one at a time, but neither will install properly). Help!

So the drive's OK, there's some interaction with your DVD. You do want the drive on a seperate channel from your hard drive for performance reasons. Make sure you don't have a "cable-select" IDE cable (with a hole through some of the wires near the middle connector, in which case you'd set both devices to CS rather than master or slave. Barring that you can experiment with DMA settings on the two conflicing devices, though you might consider getting another controller. An ATA133 controller will set you back about $30.
