Question : Problem: Mac Pro Hard Disk qualities and prices

Hello guys,

I have a Mac Pro with double Xeon 2.66 Ghz. I bought it at the end of 2006.

It has only one SATA Hard Disk with 500 Gb, but I want to buy three more SATA disks to create a Raid 0 since I need bigger performance.

When I went to the Apple web store I've found SATA disks that cost more than 300 euros (I am in Germany), but if I check in ebay I saw Samsung SATA 500 Gb disks for 99 euros. What is the difference? Is it only the store? Is Apple selling special disks? They all seems to be very similar. All with 7200 rpms and 16 mb cache.

But the most important question is: What kind of disk should I buy to have a good Raid 0?

Thanks in advance for your answers,

Answer : Problem: Mac Pro Hard Disk qualities and prices

Look at the model of the HD that's in your Mac pro, You should try and find drives that are the exact same model to have the best raid 0 performance. I'm not sure if you can or even want to raid 0 4 drives, I would do a raid 0+1 or 1+0 with 4 drives to give you speed and redundancy.  you can buy the disks from anywhere, you don't have to buy from apple, aslong as the model numbers are the same.
