Question : Problem: PCI-Express 2.0
Experts,
Overview:
I am looking in to getting two PCI-Express 2.0 graphics cards and running them together.
If a motherboard says it it PCI-Express 2.0 ready then does that mean that all it's PCI-Express slots are PCI-Express 2.0? Or will it have to specifically state that it has two PCI-Express 2.0 slots ?
I understand that the graphics cards may work in a slot that isn't PCI-Express 2.0, but I figure I wouldn't be making the most of them if only the master was running at 2.0 speeds and the 2nd graphics card was only running at PCI-Express 1.0 speeds.
Thanks in advance.
Answer : Problem: PCI-Express 2.0
There is no mixing of PCI-E 1.0 and 2.0 on the same motherboard. If your mobo says it's PCI-E 2.0 ready, then all its slots are PCI-E 2.0.
If you mix a PCI-E 1.0 and a 2.0 device, it won't really make a difference, because there is nothing that currently benefits from PCI-E 2.0's faster speeds right now. And since all future graphics cards will be PCI-E 2.0, you will be guaranteed to have it down the road when you decide to upgrade.
Really, the decision to go with one over the other doesn't really matter at this point in time. You won't notice the difference.
