Question : Problem: CPU Fan Control - Dell - running Too Hot
|
|
Hi,
Dell Inspiron 4150. Excellent laptop. I run the CPU at 100% when I run SETI. (solution - don't run SETI) CPU seems very hot so I wanted to cool it down with a little fan control. Downloaded and installed Christian Diefer's I8kfan. http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html Looks cool and lets me know that I'm cooking my CPU at between 180-200 degrees Farenheight. The issue is as follows: Now that I know I'm cooking my CPU I would like to control my fan. The Diefer application will control the fan for about 2-3 seconds and bring the fan speeds up to a cooling level of high speed 10K RPM, but then the BIOS takes back over and brings the fan speed back down to a medium fast level 7K RPM which leaves the temperature at 185 degrees F. I can switch back to 'Games' mode and the fans spin up and cool the CPU for 2-3 seconds, but then the BIOS takes over. I would much rather burn out the fan than cook the CPU. I will be purchasing an external cooler in the future, but does anyone know of an app that assists with fan control? I'm running the A06 BIOS.
Thank You, Dave

I think you should take your laptop to service. Even in full load, it souldn't warm at 185... it warms like it haven't got fan on itself. Take it to service especialy if it is still under waranty.
