Question : Problem: Cisco Switch mac command and flooding mode.
|
|
For this command below in cisco, This means, Switch will send packets from FastEthernet 0/3 port to both FastEther 0/1 and FastEthernet 0/2. Is that right ?
"mac-address-table static 0808.0808.0808 FastEthernet 0/3 FastEther 0/1 FastEthernet 0/2"
The question is that Is this command the same as flooding enable feature ? The reason why I ask becase I use EXTream switch and It has the feature like "enable flooding mode" for example I set "enable flooding" for port 1 and 2.So Is the same concept as the CisCo switch above ??? Please explain whether it is the same or not and how ?.
Thanks in advance.

Answer : Problem: Cisco Switch mac command and flooding mode.

I've not used this line specifically, but it appears to be a way to restrict data from a specific mac address to only come in from one port and only go out specific other ports. This comes in handy when you want to control broadcast packets. Normally a broadcast packet is sent to all ports (in the same vlan). It also looks like a way to restrict data flow when not using higher layer protocols, i.e. TCP/IP.
What does flood mode accomplish on the Extreme?
