Question : Problem: Cisco PIX 506 Firewall
|
|
Hello.
Just got a Cisco PIX 506, and i need to configure it for my home network.
First of all, i have trouble setting the ipadresses outside and inside. When i issue the command
ip adress outside myip netmask, i just get Type help or '?' for a list of available commands.
I have tha manual for the PIX, but it doenst seem to help.
I have also seen during my searches for that there is a win32-app. for easier configuration. Anyone know where to get this?
Thanks in advance.

G'day Dr_Alban,
If you use the console cable to do the initial setup, you can then use a web browser from that point.
Plug Interface 1 into the local hub/switch From a conosle session: when you first boot it up, it will say something like "this is the first time this has been run, do you want to run setup?" If not, from pix# type "setup" and answer the series of questions. For domain, use something like "mydomain.com" It will ask you for the IP address of the PDM access, put in the IP address of your PC (make sure it is on the same subnet as the local interface) If you just turn it on, the default IP address for the inside interface should be 192.168.1.1
Then, from your PC, open the GUI https:// If it prompts for a username/password, leave the username blank and the enable password that you gave it during the setup. Note the "s" in https: to get to it. Now you should be able to use the GUI inteface to configure it.
Cheers!
