Question : Problem: Commercial Grade Wireless Access Point
|
|
I need to setup a wireless network in a large warehouse. I've never done this on this scale so I'd appreciate it if someone could get me started on what commercial grade wireless access points to use. I'm also guessing that I'lll need wireless repeaters. Any advice on this is greately appreciated.

Hi menreeq,
I use the Cisco 1100ap, but there are much newer/better models out there now.
Most enterprise grade AP's are full blown Access Points, that can convert to repeater mode if required.
In a wearhouse, I would stay away from the thin AP's (they look like smoke detectors with a server backend) and use the AP's that you have to telnet into to configure.
Based on the nature of a warehouse, I suspect you may require quite a few. Alot of interhence can be caused by heat and equipment. Most vendors will provide you with some samples to try however, if not, I would buy one unit, then walk around with a laptop to identify the range. This way you can determine how many you need for overlap.
