Question : Problem: Does Windows 2003 support CD writers?

When I plug an Iomega external USB CD writer into my 2003 server, it is detected, but only as a CD player -no recording available. I've tried this in two servers, same response. So I tried a different unit, a Samsung external DVD writer in and the same thing happened. I've also tried fitting an internal CD_RW unit to one of my servers, but again the system only thinks it is a CD unit. Does server 2003 inherently not support CD-RW or is a setting somewhere I need to enable? A search of the help and Microsoft's site gives no answers.
Iomega say none of their drives are compatible with 2003, and Samsung don't specify.

Get third party writing software like nero, or the free CDBurnerXPPro. Just if you buy a product like nero just make sure you don't install it's paketwriting software (InCD with Nero). Specialized software is a lot better and more flexible anyway than what is built in to windows XP...
