Question : Problem: Using a Kodak i40 scanner in Microsoft Office Document Scanning (non-admin)

Hello,
The scanner works fine under administrator but when scanning under a non-admin user it returns the message

"Scan New Document" "Microsoft Office Document Imaging cannot open this image type. Please try again with different scanner settings."

The scanner is a Kodak i40, and I need to have it working through the Microsoft office Document Scanning software.

Any ideas?

Well, I suspect that the issue comes in from the fact that Power Users, but not limited users, can read, write, and modify in the \Program Files and \Windows directories and subdirectories. For the \Windows directory and subdirectories, they still can't write to or modify most system files.

You may be able to get around this using the Microsoft RunAs tool (http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/runas.mspx?mfr=true). Unfortunately, the RunAs tool requires that an admin password be passed to it at runtime, and if your user knows this, they can login. There is some 3rd party software that will do this as well, (such as http://www.lansweeper.com/ls/lsrunasold.aspx), which can encrypt and store the password so you don't have to give it to the user.
