Question : Problem: Delphi application to wait for external switch signal

Hi All,
I have a delphi application that I need to pause until it receives a signal to show that an external switch has been closed. By external I mean completly external to the PC, it is actually a relay contact so I could feed it a voltage, high, low or anything required.
I would prefer to receive the input through a USB device.
Any have any ideas - I would need some electronics to convert the input through USB then a way to identify it

thanks

Dave

Answer : Problem: Delphi application to wait for external switch signal

Dave,

Check the BIOS settings on the latop and on the other PC. They should be similar.

On newer PCs the printer port can be bi-directional as well as 2 other settings and one I think is output only.

Anyway, make sure that in the BIOS the printer port is enabled abd for bi-diretional.

I'll check in with you in the AM here. It is 11:37 PM and I have to get up at 0600.

John
