Question : Problem: How do I replace a hard drive via cloning?
|
|
I have a notebook with a hard drive in it. I have a larger drive that I want to use in its place. I want to clone the first one (120G) to the new one (250GB). I tried using Ghost.
First, I put both drives in USB enclosures and used Ghost on another computer to clone them. There is no way to use this method to make a bootable drive, even though there is a checkbox for that.
So, I put the original machine back together, installed ghost and had it to a full backup to the new drive. I then installed the new drive and I get a blinking curser.
Is there a program that works the way Ghost used to? One that actually just copies the drive sector for sector?

Yes, the best program out there is Acronis TrueImage. It's easy as pie and fairly cheap. Ghost is no longer being updated and is no longer a good solution. Here's a link for Acronis TrueImage:

If you end up purchasing it your best bet is to get the download from NewEgg for $39.99, or $15.99 for the outdated version (which would work just fine, anyway):

If you have any further questions, just ask. I've used TrueImage for years and it's proven to be miles and miles better than Ghost ever was.
