Question : Problem: Vista, Office 2007, Mouse scroll wheel

Problem:
1. Clean install of Vista Business w/ SP1, everything works fine
2. Install Office 2007 Pro, no errors during install

Now, the scroll wheel on the mouse either doesn't work, or scrolls *very* slow in every application, including IE and Explorer - I have to do a super-scroll to scroll in these apps.

The mouse (a USB Microsoft Wireless 4000) detected, installed, and worked just fine before installing Office 2007.  I'd rather not install all the crapware that comes with the mouse.  This mouse works fine on many other machines -- this physical mouse and usb transmitter.

What gives?

I had these same apps installed on an XP pro box without issue.

Answer : Problem: Vista, Office 2007, Mouse scroll wheel

Have you tried installing the latest software/driver for the mouse? Sounds to me it's just driver/application issue with Vista.

What ever that comes with Vista or with original box with mouse is usually out dated. Try grabbing the latest version from the vendor website and try that way.
