Question : Problem: memory test fail
|
|
I have a 166 Pentium computer running Win95 that will boot normally when cold.
After a minute you can restart the computer and the following will occur:
1) Memory Test OK 2) BIOS message OK 3) CD-ROM found OK 4) Then this error message might appear "Memory Test Fail" at the bottom of the screen you have the option of pressing F1 to continue or pressing DEL to goto CMOS setup. If you press F1 then windows 95 does start. However at some point the system might freeze.
My question is what is this message coming from? What memory is failing? Is this the mother board?

Answer : Problem: memory test fail

The memory on your Pentium-166 motherboard may cause the error message. There are two reasons for a memory test error. The first one is the real hardware(memory) error. But since it passed the onboard memory test, the probability is very low. The second one is the CMOS configuration, there are too many types of CMOS setup out there. So I give all the suspected cause. i. Memory Latency -> Set to the highest latency ii. Parity -> Disable parity checking if you're using non-parity RAM. iii. Memory Size -> Configure your motherboard with correct Memory size. All the way given should solve your problem.
