Question : Problem: virus?

got a computer, that wouldn't boot..gets to "starting ms-dos and hangs. Have reinstalled dos 6.22, same ..have formatted c: drive, same, have fdisked it, and get blinking warning "writing boot sector, possible virus continue yes no..." have created a boot disk from the setup disk, and if it's in a: then i at least get to system, but can't pull up help etc... if i have a virus, can i download software and put on disk and run it at the A:\> have reinstalled more than once...pretty certain I have a boot virus, and unless i have my system disk in a drive, will always hang..tried installing win3.1 and hung as well...help!

mariem, I have had a stealth virus attach itself to my hard disk. Even after fdisk/format, it attached itself in memory and would replicate on any disk accessed. It did its dirtywork at boot time right after bios initialized. Even though the hard disk wasn't partitioned. I used McAfee's emergency disk to remove it, with no further problems. Good luck, Ralph
