Question : Problem: What will be upgrade path for my server to install new hardrives.

Hello Experts

I need help with hardwares upgrade on my server with the following specs

*IBM X SERIES  235
*M/T 8671-4AX
*S/N: 78-V8636
*All the six hardrives are of make : IBM 73.4 G 10K  U320-2FRU90P1309

I want to know what the upgrade path would be for that server.

1.Currently there are 6 x 70 GB SCSI hard drives in the server in a RAID 5 array. Effectively, this is giving around 350 GB of storage.
2. We could upgrade this to either 6 x 160 GB hard drives and maintain RAID 5. This gives us around 800 GB.
3. The other alternative is to go with RAID 1 (mirroring) instead and use 2 x 750 GB hard drives.

which of the above combinations would be supported and then what part numbers we need for the various hard drive configurations.

Any SCSI with the same connector with the current ones will work or check the link for the sample of workable SCSI HD:

Here are the steps:
- Use Acronis Disk Director (for Server) to backup your image
- Power the server down and replace the drives (mark the old drive in order just in case)
- Power server up and get in RAID controller to build your arrays. RAID 1 (first 2 drives) and RAID 5 for the remainders.
- After building RAID, boot Acronis restore disk and restore your OS and application on the RAID 1. You can resize your OS partition with Acronis during the restore process.
