Question : Problem: "Network cable unplugged" OS X 10.5.5

My mirror-drive Mac Pro (G5, I believe) suddenly can't connect to Ethernet. I get "network cable unplugged" message. I've tried entering settings manually rather than rely on DHCP, but no change. And I have swapped out another cable to make sure it's not a cabling problem.

I'm using a LinkSys WRT54GC set to factory defaults, Mac OS X 10.5.5, 1.25 GB memory.

I've seen this problem in Apple discussion forums, but no clearcut solution, although I've tried everything suggested.

Any help would be appreciated!

Answer : Problem: "Network cable unplugged" OS X 10.5.5

Network cable unplugged normally indicates one of 3 possible layer 1 or layer 2 problems:

     Bad cable
     Bad NIC port on device
     Bad NIC port on switch/hub.

You state you have tried another cable, do you know that cable was in fact good?

If so, have you tried another port on the WRT54GC?

Do you have another switch you can try?

Can you borrow another network card to test in your computer?
