Question : Problem: ON SBS 2003 R2 Exchange 2003 - do you use blackberry Enterprise server BES or professional?

A client wants to be able to sync calendar and contacts when on the road.  Right now they have their blackberries and the verizon service for sneding / receiving emails.

I was told we'd need BES for that.  Lookingon the web, it seems that blackberry professional is a cheaper alternative?  (the 1st license is free, additional ones are the same price as BES and the pro software is free vs. the BES or small Bueinss BES is 500 - 1000 to start?

any recommendation?  They don't need (at least at this point) instant messaging and development, so pro would work in that respect?

They have an SBS 2003 R2 box and a windows 2003 R2 box.  I'd think I'd want to keep the blackberry app on the seperate server (the SBS, being as busy as it is, I'd like to keep extra apps off it).

Any recommendations on that - harder to run blackberry from another server?  slows down / makes the SBS box unstable if on the same box?

do both BES and professional run from a 2nd machine?  from what I see, pro looks like it should / need to be installed on the exchange box?

I use professional and installed on the Exchange Box.  If you need more then 35 users then Enterprise.  Professional is also missing minor features that Enterprise has, see Blackberry's website.  I bought 10 CALS for professional on-line at EBay for $189/US and the Pro was free and I and I got an extra license.  All running for $189/us.  Follow the setup instructions EXACTLY or it won't work.
