Question : Problem: Network Proxy Settings via USB Modem

Hi All,

Believe it or not, but we're currently in the process of upgrading our internal laptops from XP Pro SP1 to SP2. We are are nearly done, but have now run into a problem.

Our clients can access our network remotely using standard VPN software. When connected, ALL internet access goes via our proxy. Now - for clients using a wireless router / ethernet cable, they don't seem to have any problems as their machine uses IE's proxy settings. But for some reason, when using a USB broadband modem to connect, they can't get internet access; even with the proxy details in IE.

Originally, we assumed we were missing something - and managed to find the properties of the modem. Here it allowed you to enter the proxy settings again, and when set - Internet Access works!

The problem comes about when the client disconnects from our network, then trys to reconnect. Because the router is now configured to go via our proxy for ALL internet access, they can no longer dial-in. The current work around is for the client to disable proxy settings on the modem, restart their machine, connect to the network and turn the settings back on!

** Basically ** - Does anyone know how to get a USB modem to go through the settings in IE for proxy, instead of having its own?

Please remember I'm talking about a USB modem and not a router that you can configure by IP.
