Question : Problem: Wireless connection issue - Intel Pro 2200BG
|
|
HI everyone,
I am unable to connect wirelessly from my laptop. I have had this problem for as far back as i can remember owning my laptop. Recently i had my laptop setup at my girlfriends and though i was able to connect to her Netgear router momentarily, the conenction would drop after around 2-3 mins use.
I currently have the latest driver for the pro/wireless network adapter inside my laptop. I have tried chnaging over to numerous other channels but that hasn't had any affect. I am able to connect to the web via the ethernet port (wired) but this is no use to me as i need the laptop in my room, the modem is located in the lounge.
Event viewer shows the following error when trying to connect: "the system detected that network adaptor \DEVICE\TCPIP\_[SOMEWINDOWSKEY] was disconnected from the network and the adaptors network configuration has been released. If the adaptor was disconnected it may indicate a malfunction. Contact your vendor for latest drivers".
I am with Be Broadband conencting to their BeBox wireless modem. I have spoken with their staff and they have run out of ideas. I have a number of services disabled but checked with Be tech staff whom have said all teh necessary ones are enabled on my pc and so there shouldn't be an issue.
My vendor is based in Australia, i have already updated teh drivers to Intel's latest release. Any help on this will be much appreciated.
Thoughts anyone?

Well, if it's XP (I wish EE would tell people to state what OS they're using in the first post of the problem whether they think it's relevant info or not), when you right-click the notification area icon that looks like a little computer screen with the radio waves on the side and choose View Available Wireless Networks, if you're using the windows zero configuration service (just because that service is running doesn't mean it's being used), it will show you the available network[s] and have a Connect (or Disconnect, depending on current status) button in the lower right corner of the dialog.
But if you're using a 3rd party connection utility, that dialog will instead say
Windows cannot configure this wireless connection
If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software.
Then, if the WZC service is running it will tell you how to have the windows utility take control; if the WZC service is not running it will reference a KB article# that currently tells how to start that service (don't count on any XP-specific KB article being available once XP support ends).
In the case of the 2200BG, the XP driver-only package is 7MB while the connection software runs from 30MB (all most people will need) to 194MB (enterprise installation version). Go to http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=1637 select your OS from the picklist and click the "Go!" button to get to the correct download page.
