Question : Problem: Scanjet 4400c in Linux

My ScanJet 4400c doesn't have a Linux (SANE) driver, and I've searched the internet but can't come up with much. All I've found is an "experimental" driver - http://reapoff.sourceforge.net/hpscanner/Default.htm - I followed their instructions, which compiled the source into a "test" file, but what do I do with that file? Or is there some other way to get my scanner it to work?

Their is one other possibility which is running VM Ware which I have seen mentions of using to get the scanner working.
