Question : Problem: Backup Exec 9.1 and Exchange 2003

I have a server with Windows 2003 SBS and Backup Exec 9.1 with the Exchange option installed. Up until about 2 weeks ago, the backups were going just fine and then they started failing. They were failing on one users mailbox. It was one particular message that I believe is causing the problem. Other than that, the backup numbers are good compared to the previous weeks backups.

with this set up, I don't see Microsoft Information Store and that is why I'm backing up the individual mailboxes. Normally, I see that but not on this server.

So what am I missing here?

Answer : Problem: Backup Exec 9.1 and Exchange 2003

I have seen this before with Backup Exec 9.1. I had to get new license keys from Veritas/Symantec and the information store option then appeared in the selection list. It was most odd. Something to do with the upgrading of the licenses from a previous version from memory.

If they refuse to give you new keys then you will need to either
a. Buy the latest version.
b. Use NTBACKUP to do an Exchange aware backup and then backup that file.

Simon.
