Question : Problem: Disk Boot Failure
|
|
I am using a SCSI harddisk. Yesterday I installed Windows XP with the NTFS file system. I run it for a whole day with no problem with it. But suddenly it hang and I reboot it. After I reboot it, the adapter try to identify the SCSI harddisk, it can find my drive but there is a message said "start unit request failed". When it continue to boot, there is a message called "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter".
Would any one can help me cause I have some very important data in this drive and I must retrieve it. I have tried to use the freeware called "readntfs" which is used in dos to read the ntfs file system. But I can't see my drive. Is it a boot section problem or that sort of things? Can I still get back the information? Please kindly give me a help. Thanks.

From this link
http://support.ap.dell.com/docs/storage/u2w/Trouble.htm
comes this advice
"Start unit request failed"
The SCSI Card BIOS was unable to send a Start Unit Command to the peripheral.
Run SCSISelect and disable the Send Start Unit Command for the peripheral.
But it does not look good for you.
And from another source
4.This error can be a simple hardware error -- try a different SCSI cable and terminator. Try using an active terminator -- terminate SCSI chain at both ends. 5.Try to unload tape and power drive off for a few minutes and then power on again to clear volatile memory.
