Question : Problem: Can I use a pc2100 memory in same computer with pc2700
|
|
I have a Dell Inspiron 8500? It has two 512 memory chips that are pc2100 DDR266.
What would happen if I take out one of the 512's and put in a 1G pc2700 200-pin SODIMM in one of the slots?
Could I possibly damage the motherboard?

This should work fine. Your overall memory speed will be reduced to the lowest of the twp (266) but in a worst case scenario, your computer will not boot and you will have to switch them back... It will not cause any damage to try.
