Question : Problem: External Keyboard or PS/2 Port Not Responding
I have a Dell Laptop that has been working with no problems. It usually docked to it's docking station. On the docking station, I have an external PS/2 keyboard & external PS/2 mouse connected. And both have worked fine - until this week. The external keyboard is no longer working (mouse is). I tried a different keyboard (which works fine on another system) - and no luck. I then tried undocking the laptop - and tried plugging in the external keyboard to the PS/2 port on the back of the laptop. Still does not work. I then tried plugging in the external mouse to the PS/2 port, and the mouse didn't work. So now I'm thinking that it's the PS/2 port. I have tried uninstalling the keyboard & mouse drivers, restarted and it reinstalls - but I can't get the device to work. Any suggestions? The system is running Windows 2000.

Try a USB keyboard - if it works, the problem is with the PS/2 port. It can be damaged by voltage surges, static electricity, or improper plugging or unplugging of keyboards.
