Question : Problem: Sound card not showing up in device manager

I have a dell inspiron 530 running windows xp home sp3.  I recently formatted it and now the sound card does not show up in device manager.  There is nothing with the yellow error beside it and the sound is the only thing not working.  When I go to device manager under sound, video and game controller it has "audio codecs, legacy audio drivers, legacy video capture devices, media control devices, video codecs" I ran the dell diagnostics and the sound worked from them, but they run outside of windows.  When I go to sound in control manager it says "no audio device".  I have tried installing the chipset and audio drivers from dells site, but neither have helped.  I have heard that some dell computers have to have drivers installed in the correct order after a format so that the computer will work right.  Is that part of my problem, and if so is there anyway to fix it without re formatting.?

Answer : Problem: Sound card not showing up in device manager

Well here is what I did.  I reformatted and installed the chipset driver first.  Then I installed the exact same sound driver I had been installing.  The sound installed correctly.  So I guess this is a first for many of us, but with Dell always install the chipset first.
