Question : Problem: Laptop Backlight - Broken switch

HI Experts

I am using an Aspire 9420 and the backlight is giving me issues.

Following a somehehat clumsy cleaning of the internal fan, I unfortunately managed to catch some wires and the entire fitting that houses the tiny switch that determines if the lid is closed or open has sheared off!!

I know that the inverter and lcd are both fine, it's just this tiny switch which has rendered the entire machine useless.

Is there any way that I can force the backlight to always be on? I have throughly looked in the Power Options settings in Vista with no luck.

Really don't want to replace an entire machine on the basis of one tiny plastic switch!!

Answer : Problem: Laptop Backlight - Broken switch

Either the switch needs to be open or closed to turn on the display. So shorting the contacts between the switch would make sure it is always closed would keep it on if it has to be closed, or unsoldering and removing the switch would do the opposite.
