Question : Problem: Hyperthreading BIOS for Inspiron 5150

For anyone familiar with this particular laptop:

One of the workhorse laptops at the company I work for is a Dell Inspiron 5150 with a Pentium 4 3.06 GHz processor which supports hyperthreading. However, Dell never released a BIOS update to enable hyperthreading, and it has no plans to do so. My question is: is there a _specific_ third party BIOS that can be used on that particular system to enable hyperthreading?

Answer : Problem: Hyperthreading BIOS for Inspiron 5150

Beginning with the 3.2 GHz models Inspirion 5150's supported Hyprethreading out of the box.

If you flash your BIOS with any version A24 or above then your's will too.

Problem is many of the CPUs used in the earlier 3.06 GHz versions of the Laptop shipped with a Hyperthreading 'capable' CPU that had Hypertheading -physically- disabled by Intel "for marketing reasons".
We are talking laser cuts on the silicon.

So... you may have to replace your CPU to get Hyperthreading to work on you Laptop.
