Question : Problem: Compare CPU Performance and requirements - Red Hat Enterprise

I have a Client that we are quoting a Red Hat Enterprise Server and we quoted Dual Core. Someone else is quoting a Quad Core stating advantage. Can someone offer insite. They will be running Informix as the DB with less then 40 users

-          Dual-core Intel Xeon X5130 2.0GHz 4MB cache/1333 MHz
-                                       And

-          3078 Quad-core Intel Xeon processor E5405 (2.0GHz 12MB L2 1333 MHz 80w)

Answer : Problem: Compare CPU Performance and requirements - Red Hat Enterprise

a customer rarley wants to know instructions/per sec or cycle times - they want to know how long will their hardware last?
1) the quad core is the next thing so the quad core will remain main stream longer (i.e. would you buy a single core CPU now? or a duel core? , so if a person can afford the latest then go for ot as it will soon be main stream)
2) quad core is faster
3) what they need now (40 users) will be out stripped by what they will use next year, clients should buy the best they can for the cheapest price to support future performance requirements
