Question : Problem: Vaio TZ11XN won't display 1920x1200 on new Samsung 24" 2443/BW Monitor

I've just bought a new Samsung 2443 BW monitor for my wife.
I've plugged it into her laptop and the flipping laptop won't display resolutions greater than 1680 x 1050.
The laptop is a Sony Vaio TZ11XN [PCG-4L2M]
I've tried updating my monitor and graphics card drivers to no avail.
The graphics chipset (Intel 945/GMA950) is definately capable of displaying this resolution.
The laptop is running vista business edition.
The Intel driver recognises that the monitor is capable of displaying 1920 x 1200.
I'm starting to think that the Sony laptop BIOS is crippling the display modes available to me.

Help!!!

be aware that that is almost always limited by the drivers the notebook manufacturer provides. You'll have to get modded drivers (usually) to get above 1600x1200.

Also see site of intel:
Static modes for non Plug and Play monitors without an EDID. The set of basic static display modes (at 60Hz and up to 32bpp colors) include 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, and 1600x1200.
