Question : Problem: How can I reduce the noise of a Dell Dimension 5150

I have a Dell Dimension 5150 that is just over a year old. It has a Dual Core Pentium Processor 4Gb RAM and two SATA harddisks. It has a large cooling fan that seems to draw air right through the case from fron to back. Whan I first purchased it the noise level was very low. Barely audible in fact apart from the noise of the Disk Drives. Recently the noise of the Fans has increased significantly to a point now where it is quite annoying. Are there components that I could add to reuce the noise of this machine or am I tied to proprietary Dell replacement parts.

Answer : Problem: How can I reduce the noise of a Dell Dimension 5150

You can try cleaning the fan, is there lots of dust on the fan blades? Fan noise increase may be due to the fan spinning faster. The computer does that when it senses a temperature increase. Are you using the computer for cpu intensive tasks?

You are tied to Dell's replacement parts.
