Question : Problem: Gateway modem, and soundcard drivers not functioning

Gateway laptop MX6027 running windows XP.
In the Device Manager the PCI Modem and the Multimedia Audio controller have the big yellow question mark. I downloaded the drivers for the gateway website and installed them but the properties boxes still show them as not installed and the wizard won't intall them. Tried it several times.

boot under safemode and login as administrator, open device manager, show the hidden devices and uninstall all the devices marked with the yellow question mark, after that restart back in normal mode and install the above drivers for your modem and audio card.
