Question : Problem: Adding a non-HP second processor

I want to add a second processor Xeon 5130 (Dual 2 Ghz)  to my server HP Proliant ML 150 G3 buyed in december 2005 with Centos OS 4.2 32 bit.

Due to the costs of the original HP product part N. 417557-B21 (processor+heatsink) I need to know if it is possible to add any non-HP Intel Xeon 5130 and wich kind of heatsink I must buy.

Do you had this kind of experience?

Answer : Problem: Adding a non-HP second processor

There are three different sSpec's for the Xeon 5130 [SLAGC, SLABP, and SL9RX].   You don't need to buy another one from HP, but you almost certainly have to use a processor with the same sSpec.  (I'm not aware of any SMP motherboard that doesn't require this)

... it's certainly true that HP prices these rather dearly !!   You could simply buy TWO new CPU's [that would guarantee a matching pair :-) ] from a more moderately priced supplier [like Newegg ... which I know you can't use]  for the price HP wants for one !!
